Trimming the wick before every burn is one of the most important steps in candle care. A wick that’s too long can cause a larger flame, leading to excessive heat that can burn the candle too quickly and produce soot. It also creates a higher risk of the candle flickering or smoking.

For your first burn, let the candle burn for at least 2-3 hours. This allows the wax to melt evenly and create an even pool across the surface.
Avoid extinguishing the candle before this point, even if it feels like the wax is melting slowly, as you’re setting the foundation for how the candle will burn every time.
Once the candle has melted fully across the top, it will be more likely to burn evenly on future uses.
